Day 38 - The longest dayFebruary 7, 2012
Around midnight I started feeling really sick and began throwing up. I felt like shit. I was having abdominal pain, having fever chills, feeling very weak and dizzy, and all these other symptoms. After I threw up I was at least able to sleep for a bit. Every 2-4 hours throughout the night I had to get up and throw up, the worst being around 4am when I threw up the most. I honestly felt like I was dying. I was thinking this all could have been food poisoning. I just wanted to sleep it off and hope that by morning I would be better.
WRONG!
I was not better in the morning. Once my roommates left for work, I wailed and moaned in pain and agony and prayed to God to help me get through this. I didn’t throw up again, but my body felt worse. I was in so much pain and I felt extremely weak. I finally decided to call my parents so that I can go to the ER.
As soon as my dad arrived at the hospital I could hardly move and I couldn’t even get out of the car without assistance. I was admitted immediately and followed the usual procedures I’ve been through many many times. All I really wanted was to be put on fluids and get some meds since I was in pain and getting dehydrated.
I had a sweet Irish nurse named Carmel and my ER doc was quick to see me and order tests. Once I got the nausea med and pain med things were getting pretty good. That pain medicine was said to be potent, but wow I didn’t know how strong. As soon as it was in the IV I felt a weird sensation throughout my body and then put into a euphoric state. It was heaven. I then knocked out within seconds.
CT scan, urine, and blood tests all came out unremarkable and the doctor doesn’t believe it was truly food poisoning since I didn’t have any diarrhea. He said it could either be a viral infection or food poisoning. Also, good thing it wasn’t anything abdominal, like appendicitis. Internal medicine doctor came by (he was a cocky bastard) and decided to keep me overnight for observation. I would rather be in the hospital than go home, just in case something happens.
I was put in a nice room and was able to eat for the first time the whole day, but it was all liquids. My cell phone ran out of battery and I could never figure out what time it was, it felt like the day was going so slow. The last time the nurse came in to check vitals she said good night and I didn’t even realize it was almost midnight, It thought it was around 9pm.
I think I pretty much slept and only got up to pee. At least I was feeling better. I never want to experience something like that again.
